About Krystal
In 2001, I taught myself HTML and built a website for the company I was working for. I was 21, self-taught, and proud of what I'd made. I showed it to the company's webmaster, and he laughed, told me I had some machinery in the wrong category, patted me on the head and called it “cute.”
I felt stupid. So I walked away from design and didn't look back.
For the next two decades I did a lot of other things. I studied English Literature. Got a master's degree. Ran marketing for a learning center. Directed libraries. Managed websites, wrote grants, built communities around digital literacy. I got certified in UX/UI Design. I managed social media. I built my own genealogy company from scratch — designed the logo, built the site, did all the marketing myself.
And somewhere in all of that, I kept coming back to design.
Turns out I was never bad at it. I just needed a little more time — and a lot less of someone else's opinion.
In 2026 I launched Salty Design Co. to bring everything I'd learned across 25 years of marketing, design, writing, and strategy into one place. But the work I'm most proud of? The women-owned businesses that finally have a brand as strong as they are.
I started this for them. For every woman who's been dismissed, overlooked, or told her idea was cute. You built something real. Let me help the world see it.
